Project Description
Bert Read
Just as certain rock bands are known as critics darlings rather than for any mass commercial appeal, it might be said that Bert Read is the architects’ architect. Or the ‘Yo La Tengo’ of the architecture world. When chatting to many of the Sydney and Canberra mid-century survivors about their favourite and most inspiring works from the era, all roads led to Bert Read’s house in Bungendore (40km east of Canberra) not only designed but built by hand by the man himself. Ladies and gentleman … Bert Read.
The beautiful sketches in this film (along with many others) can be viewed in all their glory in Peter Muller’s book ‘Bert Read Drawings’.
